Editing on the Road.

After arriving on Maui for a weeks worth of work I needed to transform my hotel room into a suitable workspace. In this video I Chronicle all of the decisions that I made to come up with the final work environment I created. This was all shot on my iPhone 6 Plus and I cut it in iMovie on the iPhone.

I’m not sure what what is causing the “clicks” at the edits, It could just be the sound of the button to start recording.

The other thing I noticed is that the new iMovie on the iPhone actually shows you the “Used Media” indicator like FCPX does, and keep in mind, I’m talking about iMovie for the iPHONE!!! Pretty interesting actually.

Tutorial - NAB Edit 2014 - with Dave Dugdale

My good friend Dave Dugdale asked me if I would be willing to sit down with him at NAB and cut a piece he had shot. I was honored that he wanted to shoot the whole thing and make a tutorial out of it. I’d never been asked to actually explain so much about what was going on in my head and although it was a bit weird at first it actually made ME think abit about why I did so much of what I do on a day to day basic.

On a side note, I was TOTALLY impressed with how quickly Dave turned this tutorial around. He had a first draft to show me Saturday AM and he had left NAB on Thursday. Dave Started with about 3 hours of material and felt bad that he only got it down to 40 minutes but frankly, I think he did a great job.

I’d also like to credit Ryan Christensen one of the guests in the suite this evening,  for giving me the tip that I used in my Multicam Syncing tutorial. Everyone shows you how to sync a few clips together but Ryans tips made it MUCH easier to sync MANY clips all at the same time. Its VERY powerful and I’d recommend you check it out as Doug cut all of the syncing out of THIS edit demo for times sake.

Tutorial - FCPX 10.1 Multicam Syncing

Creating Synced Multicam clips is something that I do all the time. Most people demo how it works by taking two clips and syncing them. But what do you do if you have a folder full of clips from a shoot. We routinely do interviews with two cameras and with “Spanning Clips” it can be a little tricky keeping track of all the break points. This tutorial shares a new technique I learned from Ryan Christensen during Dave Dugdale’s NAB Edit Demo.

Tutorial - FCPX 10.1 Audio Channels and Sync Clips

There are multiple ways to get into detailed audio editing in Final Cut Pro X. What you find is MOST of the time you just need the audio as is from a clip but on those occasions when you need to strip out invididual tracks there are a few tricks you need to learn about dealing with Multiple Audio Tracks in a clip.
