David Fincher - MTV Music Awards

"When I first got into this business somebody once told me a piece of advice, they said, "this will be easy, all you do is surround yourself with the best people in the world and coast." And sometimes the best people in the world don't want to do what you want them to do. So somebody else told me another piece of advice where they said, "just hire your friends and at least you'll have a good time." From the people I've worked with, the record companies, and the artists, and especially the crews, I'd like to thank everyone for being the best possible people in the world AND for being my friends. Thank you."

David Fincher: winner Best Video Director MTV Music Awards 1990

Amazingly enough, that year David Fincher had directed all but ONE of the videos that were up for the award that year. His speech and the way he so eloquently carried himself complete overshadowed the tiny little fact that "yet another music video" had won an award. I have NO IDEA what the video was.
