Amy Bradley on the “Rapsody of the Seas” March 1998My name is Chris Fenwick. I am a television director and video editor. In the spring of 1998 I was working for a corporate client on “The Rapsody of the Seas”, a Royal Carribean cruise ship. My job was to produce an entertaining video for my client. The video was to be shown on the last night of the cruise.
I had one camera man working with me that came with us from California and we also paid Royal Carribean for the partial use of their staff video engineer. His name was Steve.
Because of the nature of editing in this short turn around environment I spent nearly the entire duration of the cruise in my cabin working. When I tell people that I was workin for 10 days at sea on a cruise ship they always assume it is just a “walk in the park”, however, it really was a difficult week, very hard work and LONG hours.
Wednesday March 24, 1998 Morning
On Wednesday morning rumours and stories began to circulate around the ship that some girl had committed suicide. We heard these stories from Steve, the crew member who was working with us. As sad as the story is of a young woman being on a cruise in the Carribean and still decided that she needed to end her life was, I still had a whole lot of work to do. I couldn’t really be distracted by this news.

Thursday March 25th, 1998
On or about Thursday afternoon I decided to take Steve up on his offer to come and see his edit suite that was on board the ship. Being kind of a “gear slut” I’m always interested in equipment used in my industry. During my short visit to see Steve in his edit suite, he casually informed me that he had been instructed by ship security to make sure that there were no images of the missing girl in his “Cruise Video”, the type of videotape that you would buy at the end of your cruise showing all the great things that you had done all week on board.
Thursday afternoon someone came by and posted a flyer on my door while I was working. It was a yellow piece of paper, as I remember (could have been white) that had a photo of the missing girl. Her name was Amy Bradley. I put the flyer in my room but continued to work.
Some of the boxes in my room. I had two computer systems and an edit system in my stateroom.
Somehow by Thursday evening I had heard that maybe she had not commited suicide but there was a possibility that she was abducted. There was even a suspect. His name was “Yellow” obviously a nick name, but he was the Bass Player in one of the ship bands. I am not sure where I came across this information, although it was probably through Steve and his inside, behind the scenes contacts.
The reason I remember this is that at sometime late Thursday evening I took a break from my work to go to the disco on the 11th deck of the boat and have a soda and watch the people dance. I remember seeing Yellow around the disco and I vividly remember thinking, “wow, there is that guy that they think took the girl, he looks kind of creapy”.
I went back to my room to work more.
Friday March 26th,1998 - 3AM
Sometime later that night, probably around 3AM, I took another walk to stretch my legs. It was not unusual for me to work all night and sleep during the day. While I was standing on the 8th deck, my deck, looking over the large center atrium of the boat, I witnessed 2 young girls, probably around 19 or 20 years old, walk toward the stern of the boat on the starboard side. Minutes later a young man ran from where the women had walked toward the bow of the boat.
Soon, a woman with blonde hair and another gentleman and at least one man from Royal Caribean began to congregate on what may have been the 6th deck across from where I was standing. They began to question the 2 young girls. It was around this time time that it became obvious to me that the people I was watching was the family of the missing girl.
I was curious as to why this meeting was taking place in the middle of the night and being wide awake I decided to eavesdrop to find out what I could. Apparently the 2 girls had seen Amy Bradley, the missing girl, during the early morning hours of the day she vanished. They were trying to find out anything and everything that the two girls had seen.
What I witnessed was the older woman was immensly distraught. I over heard her saying, “please, think very carfully did you see anything else? Are you sure you didn’t hear anything else, are you sure you didn’t see anything else.” The poor women was so frantic I just remember everyone trying to get her to calm down and be cool. Later I found out her name was Iva Bradley.
After seeing the frantic nature of the woman it kind of “put the humanity” on the story for me. It dawned on me that the woman had disappeared on Tuesday morning and we had heard that she had been in the disco on Monday night, if that was the case, we were in the disco with one of our cameras on Monday night. Maybe I had some video of Amy in my room on one of my video tapes.
I returned to my room and began scanning through tapes that would have been shot on that night. Amazingly enough on the last tape of the night and the last shot on the tape, there was indeed a shot of Amy dancing on the dance floor, the part that was really creepy to me was that the shot revealed that Amy was dancing with Yellow, the man that was suspected of having something to do with her disappearence.
Immediately I got out a blank BetaSP tape, a broadcast tape format and made a component level dub of the master tape showing Amy dancing with Yellow. I wrote my name and room number on the tape lable and put it in a box. I then returned to the location of the early morning meeting between the crew and the Bradley family and the 2 young girls. There was a man there but the meeting had broken up.
Friday Morning about 4AM
I approached this man and asked if he was part of the Bradley family. He informed me that he was a good friend of the family. I told him my story and how I came to have this tape in my possesion and told him that I would gladly meet with the family if they wished to see the tape in my room. The man told me that he would take care of it and thanked me for the help. It was now somewhere around 4AM.
I returned to my room to sleep.
Friday Morning about 9AM
Later that morning I went to where breakfast was being served and witnessed the Bradleys and the man I gave the tape to having breakfast together. I was dying to know if the Bradleys wanted to see the tape but I didn’t want to impose on their time. They were visibly distraught. However the man I gave the tape to walked away from the table for a moment and I approached him and asked if he had given the tape to the family. At that time he told me that he had given the video tape of Amy dancing with Yellow to the authorities.
Friday Afternoon
This is where the story gets really interesting to me.
Mid afternoon on Friday, while I was in my room working, I recieved a phone call. The man on the phone told me his name was Lou Costello, I probably made some sort of joke about “Abbott and…”. He asked me if, “I was the guy with the video tape of the missing girl” I told him that yes, I was. At that point he told me that he was going to have to get that tape from me. I informed him that there was no way I was going to give up my master tapes. I never give away master tapes and that besides that, it was on a tape format that I’m sure he didn’t have access to (afterall, I had seen the on board edit facilities) and that I would be glad to make a broadcast quality dub of the tape if he liked. He then informed me that the FBI were involved in this and that they would want the original tapes. I told him that if that was the case and the FBI wanted my master tapes then they would have to contact me.
I also informed Mr. Costello that “the entire reason for me being on his boat was to finish editing the tape that needed to air that night at midnight in the ship theater”. I would be done with my duties around 12:30 AM and I would be glad to help him or make copies or whatever at that time. However, would he please allow me the time that I needed to finish my job. At that, I believe Mr. Costello said he would be in contact with me later and he hung up.
That was the last that I heard from Mr. Costello.
I finished my job, I packed my equipment, and the next day I got off the boat in San Juan, Puerto Rico and went home to San Francisco.
Months Later
Months Later, maybe 4 to 6 months later, after telling the story of the missing girl to everyone I knew it occured to me that no one had ever called to get the master tapes that Lou Costello had insisted that the FBI was going to need. So I took it upon myself to call the FBI. I have no recollection of what office I called or who I talked to but someone took a message that I had video tape of dancing with the person that was believed to be involved in her disappearance. The person who took the message informed me that it would be forwarded to the officers in charge of the case.
At that point I felt that I had done everything that I could do.
December 1998
Somewhere around December of 1998 I watched the story of Amy Bradly on America’s Most Wanted on television, I was somewhat surprised that they did not show the tape that I had supplied to “the authorities” thru the man that was a friend of the Bradleys.
Summer 1999
Then in the summer of 1999, Amy Bradley’s story was again on TV but this time it was on Unsolved Mysteries. After the segment aired my older brother called me and asked if I had seen the piece and wondered why the video that I had was not part of the story. I informed that I had no idea.
Unknown to me, my brother had called the Unsolved Mysteries hotline and asked about the video tape and wondered if they knew about it’s existence.
A few days later my brother got a call from Iva Bradley, the mother of Amy. She talked with him and he informed her of some of the details of my story and Iva asked if she could talk with me.
Soon Iva Bradley and I were talking on the phone.
After hearing some of the ordeal and the pain that she and her family were going through I told them that I would do what I could to help.
I found out that the man that I had given the tape to was Mike McCord. Mike is Ron Bradley’s boss, Ron is Amy’s father. The Bradleys were on a business trip that was a perk to the sales people in their company. Mike McCord apparently had given my tape to one of the FBI officers that was handling Amy’s disappearence. It was the last time that copy of the tape was seen.
My Own Commentary.
The images on the tape are interesting and quite frankly kind of creepy, however the pictures are not the most interesting thing about the video tape. What is more interesting is the tapes story, it’s journey, and it’s eventual disappearance.
I gave the tape to Mike McCord. Mike tells us he gave the tape to the FBI. Twelve hours later I get a phone call from Lou Costello, head of security. Lou Costello is head of SHIP security, but he has no connection, officially with the FBI.
Mike McCord gave the tape to an FBI agent. It has never been seen since.
Why?
Why is it that Lou Costello is doing the work of the FBI trying to get the original tapes from me?
Why wouldn’t the FBI send an agent to my room if it was so important?
Better yet ask yourself this question.
Why does Lou Costello even know about the tapes that I have?
Why is the FBI talking with the head of security about details of the case?
The FBI is pretty adament about not sharing details of a case that is in progress.
I also find it highly suspicious that Steve the ship video guy was instructed to remove all the images of Amy in the video that he was editing. Granted it would be kind of a downer for you to show your travel video to someone and then say, “Oh yea, that there is the girl who vanished on board.” The fact that the request came from security and not a PR person is wierd, at least it is to me.
Conclusion
In the summer of 1999 I made another copy of the tape for the Bradleys. I have spoken with Iva several times over the last few years.
Everyone always askes me, “Did they ever find Amy Bradley?”. The answer, tragically is no. There have been some very credible sightings by people who made positive ID’s of Amy. The family has been swindled out of tons of money by people who prey on these types of victims. It really is a sad state of affairs.

I was just wondering if you knew what happened to the pictures amy took...the ones who went missing when she and her mom came to collect them. They said they would redevelop them for the next day...did her mom ever collect them? Did she find any clues on them? Why was they stolen? Had someone ordered the kidnapping of a young woman for prostitution-reasons and the pictures stolen by someone on the lookout for a victime, to bring them back to a boss of some sort to get a "yes that's what we want! Get her!" reply?
And also if you know what was done to find the woman on the pictures belived to be amy (found on the adultwebsite in 2005)...did everyone just forget about that, or was she checked out?

Lisa... my guess is that the 'ship photos' were either taken, as you said, for a shopping list, or honestly misplaced but I can tell you this... Steve, the onboard ship editor that I worked side by side with told me, FLAT OUT, I was ordered to go thru his video and make sure there was no images of Amy in it before the sold it to the guest on the ship. This was a direct order he received, not something he was doing on his own. It was as if Royal Caribbean wanted to erase her from the boat entirely.
If indeed the "sighting" adult site in 2005 is accurate, and I am in no way at all saying it isn't because the purpose of MY post here is to tell MY side of the story, MY guess is that if you were holding people against their will for prostitution wouldn't you move them around a lot so they don't get comfortable?
I would. If there is a sighting today... it will be a cold trail by tomorrow.
Either way this is a tragic story and I highly encourage everyone who ever hears it to NOT support the cruise industry by spending your vacation dollar with them. Deal or not.
First of all, Chris I think you are a stand-up guy. God Bless You for your help to Amy's family. I too, have followed this story. I thought they were totally on to something when I saw the Dr Phil show about Amy. The pictures of the girl from the brothel look amazingly like Amy. Why can't they just bust in that place to rescue her or at least confirm or deny that its her. I totally believe that girls are taken and sold into sex slavery. Amy was a beautiful girl from the pictures I've seen and someone that those people would certainly like to have. This story has bothered me since I first learned of it. I too have a daughter and would never be the same if something happened to her. I feel horrible for Amy's family and pray that someday they will find their beautiful girl. What a horrible world that someone can steal someone's child and get away with it. If she is indeed in that brothel there's probably a hundred more like her there. I hope the people responsible burn in hell.

Wow! I find your story fasinating and admire your bravery of putting it out there. I have not followed Amy's case closely, but my heart goes out to her and her family. I believe the pictures that were aired on the Dr. Phil show are indeed Amy, and pray that one day she will be found alive and brought home. I have been following Natalee Holloway's case since the beginning. After reading your article and your readers comments, I did some research and believe that the main suspect in Amy's case " Yellow" could be Steve Croes the false witness in Natalee's case. Steve Croes was a DJ aboard the party boat "Tattoo", DJ at Carlo's n' Charlie's and Mambo Jambo. According to my research he was the same Steve Croes that played with a band named, 'The Yellow Jackets'. I am curious to know if you have ever compared your video to pictures of him?

Find this woman and get her home!!! NOW !!!! Slavery remains alive in the 21st Century. Human trafficking is as large as any other international issue there is at the moment and the trafficking of young women and girls for purposes of forced prostitution stands at the forefront of the trafficking issue. Stronger international protocols need to be developed around this issue and better intergovernmental cooperation needs to come to the fore and be utilized to the fullest extent so as to develop a more comprehensive effort to eradicate this scourge. Stiff national and international penalties need to be implemented and enforced both to incarcerate the pimps and other criminals who trade human misery for profit as well as to deter the practice. Amy's case is a particularly sad and distressing one. I've checked in on it from time to time after seeing it on the Dr.Phil Show.That ship should have been put on unequivocal lock down the moment that Amy went missing. To hell with everyone's good time being ruined! A crime was in process and the ramifications were that several lives stood to be shattered permanently (as they have been). A couple hours of distress for all others on the ship? YES !!! The party wasn't worth it. The captain personally as well as the Cruise line as an entity should bear personal responsibility for this tragedy and should be sued out of the water. That's for starters. They should be boycotted until a comprehensive, stated and enforced policy is implemented so as to avoid such a tragedy like this ever taking place again.
Somebody, somewhere knows where Amy is. Better resources still now should be dedicated to this case. FIND HER!!! BRING HER HOME!!!

This is such a sad, troubling story....
I agree that I don't think she "fell" overboard. BUT........HOW could she had been taken off that boat and no one see?? I guess your plastic bag thing makes sense, but has there been any other evidence of abducting women from cruise ships and forcing them in to slavery? I don't know much on this issue.

I have read about the victim and the only victim, Amy Bradley, off and on for several years. Now, I come across this new and intrigued piece of video evidence, in what possibily could be used to pick up "Yellow" and put in holding.?? Maybe even arrested in which connecting him in some type of conspiracy pertaining to Amy Bradley.
For example, The United States justice system is known to arrest and convict unknowingly individuals/spouses that happen to only intercept one's own home phone to an unknown caller asking to speek with a spouse or live-in friend; and the unknowing individual asking for the unknown callers name and then to pass the phone off. When all of a sudden the door is busted open and the unknowingly individual/spouse is being arrested to Conspiracy Intent To Distribute, ect...
Moral of the story is The United States Government Agents would have followed common protocol in interigating last known person/persons' to see and be seen with a missing Victim. EXCEPT laws in international waters and/or docked in wherever do not have to or need to incline the same protocols. Matter-OF-Fact it would not be the FBI on the cruiseline running the investigation, It would have been and is the Coast Guarde. Or if docked in Aruba, it would be at Aruba's law inforcements discretion to indulge themselves into a missing persons investigation.

So if this video is in fact of adequate evidence in finding Amy, why would the family or anyone else involved in the long and devistating search for Amy Bradley risk losing another lead by publicising it. Unless you are part of the familyand have first hand knowledge of the victim's Amy Bradley case , you need not to present mostly HE says she says comments in assuming they are facts. But hey, my theories maybe a misconstrued because for one, I do not know the Bradley Family nor am I personally enmeshed in this heartsickening catastrophic anguishing kiddnapping case. I just watched a show called "Vanished With Beth Holloway" (on Lifetime) which featured Natalee Holloway's mother interviewing Amy Bradley's parents regarding Amy's disappearance. My personal interest in this event is due to the fact that my parents and brother were on a Princess cruise ship which was sailing on a parallel itinerary with the "Rhapsody of the Seas" when Amy disappeared. As a matter of fact, my brother's luggage was mistakenly loaded onto the Royal Caribbean ship for the duration of the cruise; he finally received it on the day he disembarked.
My reason for posting is to explain why I believe that the FBI has not pursued your film footage or the search for Amy. As a former travel agent, I can assure you that the U.S. Government has virtually no jurisdiction over ocean-going passenger cruise ships. All ocean cruising passenger vessels, with the exception of several ships in Hawaii and smaller "river cruising" vessels which sometimes cruise within Alaska, are registered outside the United States due to the strict regulations and significant taxes that the U.S. requires of U.S. registry ships. And non-U.S. registry ships must visit a port outside of the U.S. during the course of every cruise: Round-trip west coast to Hawaii cruises must spend part of a day in Mexico/New England cruises must spend time in Canada/Cruises to Key West must spend time on a private island (outside of the U.S.) owned by the cruise line/Alaska cruises must embark or disembark in Canada.
Just as foreign citizens are subject to U.S. & state laws while visiting in the United States (and their homeland is not allowed to be involved in the prosecution or defense of the offender), U.S. citizens are subject to the laws of the country of the ship's registry and/or the laws of the country of the port of call. The "Rhapsody of the Seas" is registered in the Bahamas, and the ports of call following her disappearance were all Caribbean Islands who abide by their own laws or the laws of the country that settled them. (For example: Curacao is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.) Although we are a powerful nation, the United States has no jurisdiction over the laws of other countries; therefore, the FBI's hands are virtually tied in the case of Amy Bradley.

Wow! Im completed fascinated with this case. I just watched the "Vanished with Beth Holloway" show the other night,
and this story really stuck with me. Maybe its because Im the father of a girl, but how could your heart not go out to these folks. According to the show, this Allistair guy (aka "Yellow") was questioned and realeased after he passed a polygraph....whoopty doo. Unbelievable!! If I was the father of this girl, I would be haunting this guy and giving him nightmares in his dreams. Lets say she wasnt sold into some form of human trafficking, you know she ended up over
that ship somehow, and that guy had everything to do with it. At this point, I dont think the video would amount to much,
since there were witnessess that put Amy and Yellow together. The sad news is, and Ive become to believe this, is
that so much time has passed, the chances are very likely that she has become attached to drugs, and has adapted to her new lifestyle. In essence, she may have given up on her personal freedom. So often you hear of cases where the victim
ends up becoming attached to their captor, and even taking the side of the perpetrator due to the drugs and brainwashing.
I do hope for the best, and that one day, she makes it home alive.
I saw a program on TV about Amy Bradley a couple of days ago- here in Curacao. The program "Vanished" with Beth Halloway. There were some strange things that caught my attention- when the ship docked and passengers were leaving the ship in Curacao, why a family member was not standing down there at the exit to see if Amy was leaving the ship? A taxie driver said that she saw her looking for a phone- why she did not approach the taxie driver if she was in danger? And who was she trying to call if the story was true. A Canadian man said that he saw Amy at a beach in Curacao- why he did not allert the police or people at the beach??why he did not follow her to see where she was going? A marine claimed to have seen her in a brothel- but came forward after 2 years- how weird. If she was really there, why he did not call the cops or told someone else to call the cops as he was not allowed to be in a brothel? I do live down here in Curacao and would have known what to do if she was really here on the island. Did they checked the chance of her falling overboard?? I feel till the bottom of my heart for the family- this is cruel.

How do you know a family member was not at the exits looking for Amy when it docked in Curacao? They did everything they could to stop that ship and to find Amy before the ship docked and after. The Canadian man who saw Amy did alert the police and the FBI. And the FBI did very little. As a matter of fact he said he recognized Alister Douglas as one of the two men who were with Amy in Curacao and this was months after her dissapearance. The military guy was not allowed to be at that brothel and it was off limits for him. He didntimmediately go to authorities because he said he didnt want to get into trouble. After he reported what he witnessed that brothel/abandoned hotel was burned down. Coincidence? If you want to help maybe you can find out who was running that brothel. Still many more disturbing details that the TV show did not release like Alister giving her that last drink,how the cruise line covered up her kidnapping and the strange actions of the scientologists in Curacao.
That was a question why a familymember was not at the gate-in the tv porgram they did not mention that. The beach where the Canadian was, showed on tv was out of town, if you call the police and FBI they cannot be there at once.Yes to answer your mail back- if you give me detaiils i can follow up. I just saw the story again of Amy on television. I dont believe for a moment she fell overboard. This is what these himan trafficing sludge want people to think and believe. Their little regard for human life leads them to believe that a family will believe this and go on leaving the person they have abducted in their possession. I commend you Chris for helping, speaking up and keeping the public interest. Its a sad shame that this poor girl along with many other girls are being held and forced into human slavery. Furthermore, cruise ships are NOT safe and no woman should ever venture out alone on one. My daughter took a cruise earlier this year with her boyfriend against my wishes. I sat them both down prior to leaving and discussed at length the disappearance of Amy and we googled other similar stories of people missing from cruise ships. I asked for a promise that they would stay together at al times and she was to call me daily, I would pay the phone bill from the room for calls. The trip went well for them but the entire time they were gone, I thought about Amy's story and prayed for their safe return. I PRAY that her family finds her, it breaks my heart for her parents and family. My prayers are with them and with Amy. I think we should flood social networking sites with her photo. Facebook has millions of users. Someone somewhere knows rhe whereabouts of Amy.

I am so surpised that none of this was shown on AMW or Unsolved Mysteries. And then the mention of the crew members who wanted to take her to that bar in Aruba where Holloway met Van Der Sloot. OMG!!!! I am surprised that the crew members pictures are not being ciculated. What if one of the crew members has duragotory female incident reports logged against him? This is an injustice. There could be other female "victims" out there who escaped an attempt who might be able to shed some light on Amy's abduction, etc. But without the crews pictures circulated, the Bradley's have nothing!
